P A R T II : civilian information.

Civilian Name: Wakahisa Kazuo ( or ).

Name Meaning:

  • Kazuo, given name, made with the elements (kazu) "harmony" and (o) "husband, man"
  • Wakahisa, surname, means "forever young". Made with the elements (waka) "young" and (hisa) "longevity, ancient"

Bastardize this appropriately to get "Harmony's forever young husband," 'Harmony' being a reference to 'Serenity', and the name overall referring to the mythical Greek Endymion, the lover of Selene who was kept in an eternal sleep. His only official nickname is "Kazu-kun", which is what Mitsuko commonly calls him, but Kazuo will respond to almost anything you call him. You know, "rose by any other name" and such.

Gender: Male.

Age: 20 years old.

Birthday: 4 May.

Astrology Sign: Taurus Sun, Pisces Moon, Scorpio Ascendant.

Blood Type: A.

Likes:
dart bulletPaper -- This includes posters, post cards, books, thank-you cards, letters, receipts, paper currency, checks, and paper crafts (like lanterns or origami figures). This like isn't because he is an arborphile, but rather because he likes having solid, tangible objects that reflect his possessions, relationships, and accomplishments (he still has his grade school diploma). That people find satisfaction in using credit cards and email and ebooks just totally boggles him, especially the credit cards, since Kazuo feels much more secure knowing exactly where his money is (either in his wallet, under his bed, or in a small, obscure bank that he trusts). The walls of his apartment are lined with paper of all sorts - posters, favorite newspaper clippings, huge lengths of butcher paper with his long-term plans written on them (these look like the ugliest pieces of calligraphy ever), or even little short-term reminder notes on his refrigerator. He does have a bad habit of hoarding paper because he worries about throwing out something he might later need - however, this means he keeps on proud display every card and letter he's received from his friends and girlfriend.

dart bulletDaytime Game Shows -- Kazuo doesn't like to admit this, but he works his job-schedules around his favorite Japanese game shows. It's a little scary how utterly focused he is on the programs, leaning forward in his seat and staring if he is actually sitting in on a class, and he will probably not speak a word until the commercial breaks. It's half-adorable and half-infuriating how excited he gets about the trivia he learns while watching the shows, so you'll get Kazuo interjecting something random like "did you know white chocolate isn't actually made from cocoa beans?" in the middle of a conversation about rising oil prices. In the Universe, he will fall hopelessly in love with their trivia shows too, especially "The Fountain of Trivia". Kazuo would never dare go on a trivia game show, since he's not confident in his intellectual skill, but he's a little curious to see how he'd fare on a physical feat competition like Sasuke (and you know, if the senshi are really short on money in the Universe...).

dart bulletDumb Jokes/Pranks/Surprises -- Even if he is trying to be refined and polite, Kazuo will snicker at even the dumbest, most base of humor. If you have nothing but fart jokes up your sleeve, you are in luck, because he will always laugh at those (he tries not to, but come on. He's only a man). He likes stupid puns and simple plays-on-words too, and he likes the insane situations and hilarious costumes featured on his favorite trivia shows. Also, Kazuo is endlessly amused by physical comedy and practical jokes, and he doesn't even care if he's on the butt-end of a prank, just as long as it was a funny and harmless one. Sophisticated comedy is okay, but if he just wants to enjoy himself, he'd prefer laughs that doesn't require a lot of brainpower. His own jokes tend to be mild and inoffensive (if corny), and Mitsuko often bears the brunt of his gentle teasing. Kazuo is also fond of springing small surprises on people, like sneaking up on them from behind, and again, Mitsuko is his #1 victim.

dart bulletSleeping In -- He gets excited over days he can sleep in the same way that a kid would be excited about going to Disneyworld. He'll go on about how tomorrow, he is going to wake up at 10 AM (rather than his normal 5:45 AM) and maybe be outrageous and read in bed until 12, then meet someone for lunch, watch his game shows, then hit his part-time job later in the evening. Almost nothing can ruin Kazuo's mood on these lazier days, and even late into the night he'll be whistling as he throws roses around. However, it's a hard to blame him for getting so excited since he typically works two jobs a day, patrols at least two hours a night, and has a girlfriend. Also, the only financial indulgences he ever makes are for big, comfy mattresses and good sheets, and he'll be damned if he can't enjoy them for all its worth.

dart bulletRefreshing Scenery -- Kazuo loves city life, and he can't imagine returning to the countryside where he originally grew up, but he might go absolutely insane if he didn't have a little bit of greenery around him. He keeps a rag-tag collection of abandoned potted plants on the balcony of his apartment, and always pauses at paintings or pictures of nature in advertisements. There was a park sitting between Kazuo's job and his apartment in the Negaverse, and walking through there was an easy way for him to get his daily requirement of plants. In the Universe, he found a park eerily similar to his old Negaverse one, though this one has a beautiful rose garden hidden by a grove of trees. He's friendly with the old woman who up keeps the little garden, and if Kazuo has spare time, he helps her with the heavier labor (putting in a fence, lifting fertilizer bags, etc.)

dart bulletRandom Likes -- Authors Haruki Murakami and Alexandre Dumas, Asahi Black beer, ceramic mugs, daytime radio, Hong Kong epic films, his cozy teeny-tiny apartment, free entertainment of all sorts, darts, mountain sides, ukiyo-e landscape woodblocks, crowded shopping districts, penguins, street food (especially canned coffee and nikuman [steamed pork buns]), White Day (...he likes eating all of the candy Mitsuko gets from her admirers. On the less-selfish side, he also likes trying to spring dorky surprises on her on this day.)

Dislikes:
dart bulletGift-Buying -- He has no problem with the notion of gift-giving at all, and he really tries to show people that he respects and appreciates what they do for himself and Mitsuko, but the act of buying a gift just stresses him the hell out. It doesn't help that he has the worst taste in gifts ever, mostly because he tends to impulse-buy gifts during sales, but also because he second-guesses his gift ideas so much that he panics and just picks something strange. Kazuo ends up coming across as someone who waited for the last minute to get something (not the case, he buys gifts at least two days in advance), or as someone who is indirectly dropping awful hints ("Kazuo, why do you think I need SHAMPOO?!!"). He is a million times more at ease when the person specifically points out a gift they want, or when he can just take them out for noodles and call that a gift.

dart bulletExpectations on His Character -- This hate is triggered by popular depictions of Tuxedo Kamen, more so in the Universe than in the Negaverse. Kazuo is just absolutely horrified that people expect for him to be a suave, brilliant, rich guy. He's cool with his current life as a Poor Awkward Worker Dude (+ a Hot Girlfriend, hi Mitsuko), and he really hates feeling like people are pushing him into a role that doesn't suit him. He's not a casanova and he knows he's not the Idealistic Man that people seem to think Tuxedo Kamen must be. But he is perfect for his girlfriend, which is all he cares about, and everyone else should mind their own damn business. Similarly, he gets angry if he feels like his friends are being hurt by expectations put upon them. Superpowers or not, Senshi are all people with real problems and real lives, and if he feels they are being treated like tools or idols, he might go into a rare snap of anger.

Also, Kazuo is desperate to prove that he is not corny and not a dork like the depicted Tuxedo Kamen, and he becomes insecure in the face of popular depictions and cosplay. The big problem here is that Kazuo is corny and a dork, so his forced attempts at being cool tend to backfire fabulously.

dart bulletTemples and Traditional Japanese Holidays -- Don't get him wrong about this: though Kazuo isn't religious himself, he has no problem with faith or spirituality. But his difficulty with temples and Shinto-based traditions are that he is actually only superficially familiar with the rites that go along with them, and he feels uncomfortable in a temple or at a ceremony because he is certain that he's going to screw up something and ruin the fun for everyone. Because he grew up in a Christian missionary-run orphanage out in the Japanese countryside (and because he was a reclusive brat), Kazuo never participated in many typical Japanese traditions during his youth. When he got older, he was simply too busy working to bother going out. So while he has Christmas stories to tell, he feels self-conscious because he never got involved in native traditions until recently; for example, only he went to his first tanabata festival when he was 19. He wants to learn and to have fun, and he will in slow-steps, but he'll always be a little uncomfortable and ashamed that he never bothered to know his own culture better. He is probably the only person over the age of 8 to manage to put on a yukata incorrectly - the result was an incident that he prays none of the other Negaverse Senshi will ever bring up again.

dart bulletHeights/Falls -- Oh, and how he tries to hide this. You wouldn't expect a guy who regularly shows up for battle on a rooftop to be nervous about heights, but he is so stubborn about hiding his fears that he tries not to make a fuss about it. After all, he can't efficiently use his magic at street-level, and from a height he is better able to evaluate the battle. If he is at a height (which he defines as two stories or higher), he absolutely has to be on something solid and at least two feet wide - Tuxedo Kamen would turn slate white, his knees would shake, and he might even quail a little if he was forced to stand on a lamppost, for example. Even though experience has taught him that he can take four story falls without even a broken ankle, he'd much rather jump down the fire escape. And if he had a better sense of humor about such things, he'd be grateful that Galaxia zapped him to dust right before his airplane trip to Sapporo, since he was trembling like a leaf at the airport gate.

dart bulletHaving His Future Told -- Both in the fortune-telling sense and in the VERY LITERAL sense. That whole incident with Beryl pretty much killed all of his desire to deal with fortunes or astrology, and though he'll watch other people have their fortunes told, he'll always pass himself. As for legitimate information about his future, well, Kazuo is a simple guy who likes seeing things through in a linear fashion, A to Z, and plain and simple without wondering if his every choice might have insane Back-To-The-Future repercussions. He'd probably try to take Tamaki out for sympathy noodles, since he has no idea how she can handle the brain-hurty related to mucking through time. Also, Kazuo would have fainted the first time he met King Endymion (but please don't bring that up either, Negaverse senshi).

dart bulletRandom Dislikes -- Multi-tasking (you could smell his brain short-circuit), sneakers, hair product, cologne, Western fast-food, swimming, gambling, romantic dramas (both the television and real-world kind just puzzle him - he doesn't understand that most people aren't as lucky in love as he is), headphones, chess, cell phones, bumper stickers (you would too if your job involved scraping the damn things off cars), foreign automobiles, giant monster/alien invasion movies, credit cards, red beans, marshmallow, Luna (the feeling is mutual).

Hobbies:
dart bulletGo-Go Gadget -- Kazuo already spends most of his days doing repair work at his car mechanic job, but he simply cannot get enough of fiddling and fixing broken machines even in his spare time. He finds that there is something sad about a gorgeous clock or semi-new television thrown out in the trash just because of a loose screw, and so he likes to rescue the objects, fix them, and either sell them or give them away to friends. Look in his little apartment, and you'll already see that he has two televisions, a stack of VCRs and DVD players he wants to fix up, a smattering of CD players and stereos, at least two clocks in each of his rooms, and small screwdrivers, wire-cutters, and wrenches scattered about. He loves to flip through electronics and automotive magazines (though he finds them too expensive to warrant buying), and he is fascinated by any innovations in technology. Currently, Kazuo is just a fixer, and he has no inclination to invent new things or play Mad Scientist. He's also not well trained when it comes to fixing computers or other more complicated technology, though he'll give it his best shot if he has to.

dart bulletReading Rainbow -- File this under O for 'obvious'. Kazuo has enjoyed reading since he was a little kid, and for a long time, books were his best companions. He has been addicted to the thrill and intrigue of medieval European-esque adventure tales since he was a child, and he finds himself lost in tales about warriors and knights and noble thieves and fighting to win your beautiful maiden and all of that stuff that doesn't actually apply to most guys. As an adult, his taste matured just enough so that he tries to keep up with more contemporary Japanese literature too. In public, he tends to use books as a shield against other people - on the subway, for example, he pretends to be reading a cheap sci-fi novel just so that nobody tries to talk to him (he really hates the book, and typically is just spacing out and thinking about his girlfriend). The books he loves to read virtually never leave the safety of his home and are unattractively piled by his couch and his bed, and most of them were either rented from a library or bought at sidewalk sales. He can read the same book fifteen times and still be excited about it, and by now his copy of Man in the Iron Mask looks like some kids played soccer with it.

Since Kazuo grew up on medieval-style literature, his views on heroism, individualism, and romance are a bit disconnected from the Japanese norms and more oriented towards European ideals. He believes in love at first sight, in heroes who sacrifice everything to protect the fair maiden, that Good always wins out in the end, destiny, and the endurance of True Love (the past year of his life has done nothing but reinforce those beliefs). His adoration for French adventure novels also makes him want to learn some a little of the language, though he hasn't had the time to sit down and study it. But if he knew French was called 'the language of romance', he'd probably blush and reconsider.

dart bulletMr. Wizard -- More like a hobby-in-progress, Kazuo is trying to learn small slights of hand and card tricks. He started only because he found a magic trick book on sale for cheap once, but he's continued the hobby because it makes for a good ice-breaker, plus it gives his hands something to do when they can't otherwise be working. If he's waiting around for somebody or something (like a bus), you'll probably be watching him practice his coin tricks over and over again. He's been learning at a slow pace, and while he's caught on to a few coin and cup-and-ball tricks, to his great frustration he always fumbles with the cards.

dart bullet"House and Town" Simulation Gaming -- Kazuo tells people that he's not into video games (that he "doesn't have the time or money to waste on them,") but in the rare occasion that he borrows Mitsuko's handheld copies of games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, he turns into a gaming FIEND. The idea of being thousands and thousands of bells in debt to a freaking raccoon drives Kazuo up the wall, so he will hunch over the game with bloodshot eyes, doing everything he possibly can to pay off his mortgages. He is never, ever satisfied with these games until he has the best house, the best cows, the best town, and the best family (he always picks blonde wives in Harvest Moon. Go figure.) The jury's out on whether or not he actually enjoys these games or just treats them as an outlet for his Scrooge tendencies, though.

Goals:
dart bulletMost immediate - Make sure the Negaverse Senshi are okay, hug and kiss Mitsuko lots when he sees her again (the other Senshi should feel free to make gagging noises). Kazuo was very anxious about being separated from his girlfriend, though you better hope he doesn't immediately find out that Mitsuko died when she first landed in the dimension, or else he'll try to kidnap her back into the safety of the Negaverse. He'd probably want to have a civil one-on-one chat with Iblis as well (if bashing Iblis's face in with a cane counts as a chat).

dart bulletIn other supernatural business, Kazuo gets depressed whenever he thinks about the original Shitennou, his old best friends, who now exist as rocks. Even though he and Mitsuko built a cozy little Dream House for the Shitennou to stay in (...literately. It has doll furniture and tiny clocks and carpeting), Kazuo really really wants to return his friends to life, and he keeps his ears and eyes open for any hints about how to do that.

dart bullet Try to catch up on schooling enough so that he can go to college. Kazuo didn't attend upper-secondary school (10th-12th grades) because he didn't have the money to pay tuition, and so he got a job instead. Though at first he felt fine with his decision to skip straight into the work world, he started to really regret the choice once he met the Negaverse Senshi. Kazuo then started taking evening school courses for his upper-secondary school equivalent (he's working towards taking the proficiency test, similar to a GED), but his education kept on getting delayed by things like brainwashing and black lung illness and death, which sadly could not be counted as excused absences. He's looking at business or management degrees for college since he'd like to start his own repair shop eventually, though Kazuo secretly melts at the thought of taking higher-level literature classes.

dart bulletMake a Plan as to how to propose to Mitsuko. He knows that marriage is probably a few years off, but he really wants to propose to her within the year to prove how serious he is about her. Kazuo has the money for an engagement ring with him when he crosses dimensions, and he'll probably have to swallow his pride and approach the Senshi, red-faced, for help picking out the perfect one.

dart bulletStart investing money. He is already very good at managing his money, but he wants to be more aggressive in saving and building interest so that he could afford to buy everything he might need in the future. Though he knows that his future investments probably involve armies and castles, Kazuo goes into dopey daydream mode when he dreams of one day buying a cozy house in a good suburban neighborhood, complete with a little yard, a workshop room for his and Mitsuko's crafts, and enough room for about, oh, three or four children. He thinks having a bunch of brats would be totally awesome. But you know, NOT IMMEDIATELY.

Good Points:
dart bulletNo Pressure -- Hanging around with Kazuo is an open invitation just to relax and not worry about expectations. He's a non-judgmental sort of guy who is cool with whatever lifestyle or opinions you have, and among his friends and the people he respects (mostly the Senshi), he will go out to coffee with a hyperactive attention whore just as easily as he would a shy book-nerd, and he will sit there placidly and enjoy whatever conversation you have to throw at him. He's polite but not rigidly formal or critical of others in any sense, and even if he is concerned about a person, he will try to talk to them but he won't guilt, manipulate, or otherwise try to pressure them into an action. Kazuo doesn't hold people's past mistakes against them either, and just encourages them to get it right the second time. He's also quick to remind any Senshi that even if they have crystals and superpowers, they still completely have the right to act like teenagers and enjoy normal living in the present.

dart bulletMan of Faith -- Once you win Kazuo's faith and trust, you have it forever. He will not question you or test your loyalty in any underhanded way, and he virtually never gets jealous or suspicious of the people he believes in. Not to say that he hands out his faith like candy (he watches people for a long time before he invests anything in them), but once you have his trust, you also have all of the support, encouragement, and help that he can provide for you. He even holds faith in the people who've betrayed him, and holds out hope that they may see sense again. Kazuo also has a high respect for other people's duties and abilities, especially the Senshi's, and so he never ever wants to seem like he is commanding them or telling them how to do their job. His faith in others and his interest in people's skills/abilities does help him correctly delegate responsibility when he has a leadership role, and prevents him from micromanaging inappropriately. But Kazuo currently doesn't feel comfortable with 'pushing' other people around, so there is little opportunity for this strength to appear.

dart bulletCoordinated -- Kazuo is very precise in manipulating tools, gadgets, and gears, and he generally has amazing hand-eye coordination. He's very good at darts and other throwing games (carnival game vendors fear him), and though he's not a fan of shooter arcade games, he can hold his own. Kazuo is also pretty sure-footed and has a fine sense of balance, and he's a naturally wonderful slow dancer too. His brain and his body are overall very well-synced, and he doesn't fumble or stumble unless he is deep in some daydream world.

dart bulletKing of Urban Survival -- Thanks to experience, Kazuo excels at navigating life as a poor guy in a big city. He seems to have a sixth sense about knowing where to go for housing, who to try to get a temporary job from, where the best shopping districts are for cheap food, etc. He doesn't buy any technology that he can't fish out from behind an electronics store and fix himself, and almost all of his clothes are either bought at thrift stores or given to him second-hand from a friend or employer. He's fantastic at operating on a tight budget, and only overspends or impulse-buys if he is in a panic. This isn't the most glamorous of abilities, and he hasn't yet managed to be well-off in a financial sense, but he will always get two decent meals a day and shelter for the night, no matter how broke or lost he is. Which is definitely helpful, since he's not going to spend a single yen of his engagement ring fund on food.

dart bulletChivalry Is Not Dead... -- Holding doors open for women, carrying their heavy bags, giving up his seat on a bus or train (it kills him when other guys don't do the same), splitting the last sticky bun in the box with the lady...it's all common courtesy that Kazuo is constantly mindful of. Some of his politeness stems from terror - the only women Kazuo was regularly exposed to as a child were the Christian nuns who ran the orphanage he grew up in, and they did a great job of beating manners into him. He used to be very uneasy about being in regular, casual contact with younger women, and he's learned to compensate for all of his awkward shortcomings by being impeccably polite in behavior (or else, he'll just burn red with embarrassment and apologize profusely).

Flaws:
dart bullet...But Tuxedo Kamen Probably Is -- It's nice to be a gentleman, but he is entirely too eager to throw himself into danger if he thinks it might prevent other people from unnecessary hardship. His attempts to intercept villains before the Senshi do tends to get him encased in diamond, or ensnared by evil vines, or kidnapped, or otherwise taken out of commission before a battle really gets underway (he seems to always get knocked onto his back one way or another, which isn't too bad considering the Senshi's miniskirts). Protecting Sailor Moon is his number one concern, but if he can help it, he won't let a single attack hit any of the girls. This could cramp the style of some of the more offensive Senshi, plus this obviously puts his own life into constant danger. Surprisingly, even getting gravely injured few times has not been enough to teach Kazuo a lesson about self-sacrifice - he is very stubborn about his assumed role as the Senshi's human shield and decoy, and he believes he's not useful in battle for much else than that.

dart bulletBrain-Washing Magnet -- Kazuo is much more ashamed of his sensitivity to mind-control than he ever could be about getting captured or killed. Magical attacks that prey on the mind tend to have maximum effect on him, and brainwashing tends to work splendidly on him. He is also particularly sensitive to subliminal messages and projected dreams. He tries to compensate for his vulnerability by trying not to reveal his weaknesses or fears, but that has limited success, especially since it's obvious to the world that his heart beats for Mitsuko. When he is very worried, confused, and stressed-out, he opens himself more to psychic attack, and but being more calm, secure in his goals, and faithful in himself and other people helps Kazuo shield himself against outside control.

dart bulletSpace Case -- But at times it seems like there is absolutely nothing going on in his head at all, so it'd be no wonder why villains try to hijack such an easy target. Sometimes, completely out of nowhere in a conversation, his ability to focus just evaporates and he spaces out, becoming completely oblivious to the world around him. Talk to him and he will totally not hear you, at least until you smack him or wave something in his face. This isn't a problem of nothing going on in his head. His mind would be active, but it's probably musing about something that has absolutely no bearing on what's happening at the moment (perhaps on the book he's reading at home, or wondering what his girlfriend is up to). When he snaps out of it, he pretends that he knows what's going on, but it's clear that he was in outer space for about five minutes there.

People closer to him would probably recognize a certain serious, glazed look he gets in his eyes when he's pretending to listen to a group's battle plan but is instead considering doing his own solo-mission, which is likely Some Totally Stupid Martyr Plan That Will Definitely Get Him Hurt (but for the sake of the girls, of course). And it is impossible to sway him from his Stupid Plans.

dart bulletStubborn Loner -- Kazuo spent his whole life taking care of problems by himself, so he doesn't instinctively think of teaming up with other people. His immediate, gut reaction to any situation is that he should work alone, and that other people shouldn't get involved in his duties and problems. So he's a free agent who will help people and try to encourage them, but only on his own accord, and he rarely collaborates on anything and he almost never agrees to partnerships. He never allows himself to be lead around either, and will really just ignore most orders that other people try to give him (work is one of the few exceptions here). If he sees a villain in action, he does not first call for back-up, but instead immediately pursues the villain and tries to take him/her down on his own. Or if he otherwise has a Stupid Martyr Plan about how to best solve a problem, Kazuo tends to go ahead and do it without consulting anybody, and he always thinks that he'll be able to sort out the problem just by himself. He's also the sort of guy who will agree to a group's plan and then do the complete opposite without warning - again, not because he's egotistical, but because he thought about the plan and just believes his idea (and sacrifice) will cause other people the least inconvenience in the long-run (really, it's no surprise if people want to bite his head off).

dart bulletDon't Be Fooled By the Glasses -- Though Kazuo can be slow on the uptake at times, he's no moron, and he can be insightful in practical ways. But he does have a considerable lack of academic knowledge. It seems as if his rural schooling gave him enough language and math skills so that he could do his taxes and pass the basic national exams, then simply failed him in all other respects. He could barely name all of the planets before he met the Senshi. He can't tell you the rate of gravity or what a range is. He knows less kanji than he would like to admit (he always reads his books with the help of a dictionary). He thinks Siberia is a country. And so on. This isn't Kazuo's fault so much as it is a fault of his education, and after meeting the Negaverse Senshi he became painfully aware of the gap in their knowledge, and he is mostly unable to help anybody with schoolwork (he would like Izumi as a person, but being around her makes him want to sulk in the corner and eat pages out of an encyclopedia). He tries to glean more education through novels and game shows, but he knows that's not the same as being formally taught. And since he keeps failing his night classes due to a high absence rate, he is doubly frustrated because he is unable to catch up.

Personality:
Overview
At first glance, nothing about Kazuo really impresses people - in fact, he comes across as an absolutely unremarkable guy. Kazuo is a respectably quiet man and known for being a reliable, hard worker with practical ambitions for himself, and though he doesn't have a lot of money, he never begs or whines about his station. He is definitely on the awkward side though, and when he's not falling over himself try to be properly social or cool, he's lost in some spaced-out daydream world. Careful observers may also notice his absolute comfort in being alone and self-reliant, his tendency to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself, and his rock-solid stubbornness which is cloaked by a placid demeanor.

Most people (...well, most people who know his true identity as Endymion) would look at him and think "damn, they'll let anybody be a prince these days" since he is neither rich nor particularly brilliant, and most of his attempts to be high-class and suave are forced and come across as dorky. But his noble nature is apparent in his respect for each individual he meets and his support for their skills/dreams, in his attempts to act in accordance to the greater good, in his ambition to always become a better person than he was the day before, and in wish to sacrifice himself rather than let other people endure pain and hardship. Without his love for Mitsuko, none of these traits would have fully come to life - Kazuo is a textbook case of a guy who has been utterly inspired to be a better man by romance, and he will keep on trying to get better until he is a man whom everyone can rely on.

Self Image
In spite of his social anxieties, Kazuo has a fairly healthy self-concept. He's confident in his present lifestyle - it's not glamorous, but it's honest, and he puts in the best effort that he can. Kazuo sees himself on a road to slow but steady self-improvement, and he never pushes his abilities too hard, too fast. It's difficult for other people to discourage him and he is often only hindered by his own anxieties. But even then, if some person/thing/goal means the world to him, he will force himself to work through his anxiety for the sake of what's precious to him. Kazuo has Plans for himself that he knows that he will achieve some day. He's proud of what he does accomplish, and he is even more proud when he can create and do things independent of anybody else's help. He still can get defensive when people try to help him out, since he sees that as a proof of his weakness, but lately he's gotten better at accepted limited aid from others. Kazuo will just be very concerned with repaying your kindness in some way or another.

Self-consciousness creeps in when he feels like the odd-man-out in a group, which he feels is often the case. He tries to downplay or mask the features that he knows stands out, and so he tries to minimize his wide shoulders, wears ugly-fying glasses to avoid attention, and uses trivia to distract from his lack of education. He never brings up the fact that he's an orphan either. Kazuo is not forward enough to try to over-achieve and force people to accept himself and his past - he's quicker just to give up and sink into the background so he doesn't cause any upset or problems.

Before Kazuo dedicates himself to any idea or cause, he thoroughly second-guesses the motivations and morality behind them since he is afraid of repeating the mistakes he made as Prince Endymion. He's honestly very ashamed of how selfish he was in his past incarnation, and he feels like he has no right to call himself a Prince in this life, and he discourages other people from addressing or treating him like one (he knows he has a responsibility to the Earth, but he doesn't believe that he should get special treatment because of it). Kazuo believes that he is inherently self-centered, and so he's on a mission to redeem himself and do right by the Earth in this life. He is now very aware of the Greater Good, and tries to pick actions that will have the greatest long-term effects. Unfortunately, his belief that he is selfish often causes him to overdo it in terms of self-sacrifice.

Motives
Kazuo loves tangible things, tangible results, and just any sort of progress that he can see and feel. He is highly self-motivated and absolutely loves to see himself improve his skills, and he enjoys working hard and making himself more efficient. He'll get very excitable when he picks up on something new, even something as small as new trivia or learning how to braid. He's the uncompetitive sort though and judges himself only by his own standards, so he becomes fascinated by the special skills and achievements of other people without jealousy, and he honestly likes seeing other people improve themselves. He can be particularly encouraging if he feels like someone has given up on their potential, and he would prod them until they start acting on that potential once more. This can be perceived as being meddling (since he will NOT STOP PESTERING YOU. I did say that the boy is stubborn), but he really intends the best.

Like most other young men, Kazuo does not enjoy being brainwashed and having his body and power manipulated for evil purposes, and this happens most often when he is confused, discouraged, and lost. So he has worked very, very hard to create direction for himself so that he always has goals he can focus his will on, making it easier for him to try to break free from manipulation. Kazuo is constantly reminding himself about why his plans and commitments are so important to him, just as a way of reinforcing his heart and will. Even better, he has found that he enjoys dreaming and planning for the future. He gets very excited about drafting a One Month Plan or Six Month Plan or even a Three Year Plan for himself, and he actually writes out his bulleted plans in huge butcher paper and tacks it to his living room wall so he doesn't forget (cue hideous calligraphy). Kazuo's very good at keeping up with his long-term plans because he is persistent and he can pace himself, and because he doesn't mind getting to a goal at a slow and steady rate. He is just as good at drafting long-term plans for other people and for groups, though he won't dare do this unless he was invited to help out.

He still has his moments of thoughtless action, and these emerge when he is terrified that he is about to lose something or somebody he cares about. This explains some of the incidents where he's gotten very hurt in battle since he's so worried that if he doesn't instantly throw himself into the face of danger, he will lose his chance to protect other people. If he realized how upsetting his behavior was to Mitsuko and to his friends, even this behavior would be curbed. In most cases, once Kazuo realizes how much pain a decision of his causes others, he will stop immediately, then do his best to avoid making the same mistake again. However, it takes him a while to even realize he needs a change in tact, and he can repeat the same mistake a dozen times before realizing he needs to change.

Kazuo does highly respect the duties and actions that other people choose for themselves, so he doesn't understand why anybody would want to impose on his own convictions and actions. He believes so strongly in his abilities and his independent approaches to problems that he has a lot of trouble taking commands, or even just advice, from others. People tend to be surprised when they first encounter his stubbornness, especially since he comes across as an appropriately passive and agreeable young man. Kazuo's not the confrontational sort, yet in a conversational tone he would flat-out refuse commands that go against his convictions, or, to try to keep the peace, he would pretend to go along with the crowd and instead really attend to his own plans. If he was told to run laps, he would stare at you like you have a third ear, then say "no thank you" and go buy bottled water for the people who are running. If a Negaverse Senshi plan involved everyone storming a hideout together on Tuesday, he'd agree, then go infiltrate it alone on Monday night.

There are some exceptions to this, such as education - when he recognizes that someone can teach him a skill that he can't learn on his own, he will fall in line immediately and be very attentive student (...maybe too attentive, as he goes "why this?" "why that?" "how did you do this?" every three seconds). In the very very rare occasion that Kazuo approaches somebody for advice, he will take it to heart. Kazuo will also obey employers (a good thing to do if you want to get paid), but he is only a happy worker when he is given an individual task at work to finish in any method or pace he desires. Mitsuko is the only person he's ever considered a true partner and with whom he can actually collaborate with, but he still has some stupid convictions that even her pleas can't break, such as his insistence on being her Tuxedo Human Shield.

General Behavior
In the past year, he's gotten over his tendency to be withdrawn and shy, and now he will try to approach people he finds interesting or who seem discouraged somehow. However, does still have trouble figuring out how to engage other people in conversation, and he tends to over-think himself in his social interactions. He tries to calculate all of his words and actions so he comes across in the most appropriate light, but sometimes the sudden anxiety is too much for him and he ends up fumbling over his words or blurting out the first things that come to his mind. Kazuo either goes through a lot of words before he can get to his point, or he speaks too little and leaves out important points in his statement.

He spends a lot of his time embarrassed for some reason or another, and tends to clam up and shrink his presence so that people's attention will not return back to him. He also tends to zone out during conversations, typically when he thinks that the topic isn't going in a productive direction (talking about hair care? Then he's gone), so he'll go ahead and ponder about things that matter more to him. He's also notoriously dense when it comes to picking up subtle cues, so you need to be fairly obvious in your emotional expressions for him to understand that you are sad/happy/furious.

It's a lot easier for Kazuo to immediately get along with older people (35 and older) than with his peers. Not only does he have a high respect for his elders (again, he adores accomplishment, and respects all of the things an older person has done in their long lives), but he also finds that they aren't moody or unpredictable. For younger people, he feels like he has a much harder time anticipating reactions, and he feels like he has to stay on his toes or otherwise he'll make a fool of himself. He also grew up mostly around other boys, so dealing with a team of girls has been nothing short of terrifying for the past year, though he is over the trauma of it now (...mostly). He is a pleasant and insightful conversationalist when he can relax his anxieties, so it is worth it to be patient while he fumbles through the beginning of a conversation because he'll get easier to interact with as he warms up to you. Kazuo also becomes more animated when the conversation turns to abilities and productivity, and his conversational skills become a lot more fluid if you try talking to him while he has his hands busy with a project.

Once he warms up to you, he is so easygoing and encouraging that it can be easy to miss that Kazuo rarely talks about himself in return, not beyond blandly general things like "I like fixing toasters" and "blue is a nice color", so it can be frustrating to try to read him and understand his motivations and emotions. He even tries to plaster on a thin smile when he's distressed or depressed just so that people don't pry. He feels like he's the only person who can solve his own emotional problems, and he doesn't want other people feeling like they need to go out of their way just to boost his mood. When he is down though, you can tell because he won't get excited over anything that would normally get him chatty. If he is asked a question he feels is too personal (about his feelings, opinions, and his love-life or his past), he will gloss over it or give you white lies, and he won't feel guilty because it wasn't your business to ask in the first place, and so he is under no obligation to give you the truth.

He also responds poorly to other people's attempts to flirt with him...Kazuo has no idea why people would even want to flirt with him, since he doesn't think of himself as particularly attractive or special. He'll either be completely oblivious to the flirting (he'll assume that the flirter is just overly-friendly, or maybe a bit weird), or if the attempt is too obvious to miss, he will freak out and immediately try to put the person at a distance. Kazuo is not smooth enough to let a person down gently (to say the LEAST), so he'd rather just disappear from their life and hope that their fascination with him goes away. He might even get angry with a person flirting with him, especially since he assumes that it's obvious that he's already attached, so he'd take the attention as the flirter's way of saying "I'm better than your current girl" or "guys like you are too weak-willed to resist me anyway". This all might have to do with the trauma relating to a Psychotic Oracle Admirer. However, if you happen to be a Magical Moon Princess, flirting will be returned as he clumsily flirts back and tries to control his blushing (Tuxedo Kamen retreated quickly from his earliest battles not because he wanted to be Mysterious, but because Sailor Moon made him bashful as all hell).

His anger is a difficult thing to draw out. He doesn't like to give away what triggers his fears or upsets, and so he'll try to stay neutral and quiet in the face of all conflicts to mask what really sets him off. Throw insults to his face and he'll take it without fuss or a word in retaliation - very few insults actually hit his heart, and even then, he doesn't react to them immediately but at some later time of reflection. He will also try to intercept attacks on another person, because while Kazuo expects and is used to shouldering his own troubles alone, he hates seeing the people he cares for put into hard situations, and so he will try to take the burden and fire for them. Seeing a person put harsh expectations on others, or seeing people manipulated, are quick ways to set off his anger. But if you want to hurt Kazuo very badly, tell him that he's useless and tell him that his girlfriend is better off without him, and he will probably break character and actually display his upset. Push him far enough and in his rare moments of pure rage, he'll manifest it physically rather than verbally - he'll punch a wall or slam a door, and in battle, he's more than happy to thunder out critical blows on an opponent who has crossed his path too often.

After his anger cools, Kazuo is able to forgive people and extend his sympathies, especially since his worldview is one that says that anybody can become a better person if only given enough time. He's already forgiven the original Shitennou for their betrayal, and he wishes he knew how to resurrect them once again. He holds no anger towards Mara simply because of her brothers' actions. Well, Kazuo probably will have a bone to pick with Iblis over that "you killed my girlfriend" thing, but even under his fury, Kazuo is confused and saddened to see that Iblis and the Apprentices are still so hateful even though Metallia's influence is gone. While Kazuo clings to tokens of love and affection, he's learned that it does his heart no good to cling to hate, and he has learned to let go of his resentments. He'll be very careful around people who have previously crossed him, for sure, but Kazuo will give them a second chance. After all, he's still grateful to have his own second-chance at life and love after his own major screw-up.

As Tuxedo Kamen, he appears bolder, but there is no real change in personality. He dislikes limelight and will try to operate out of the shadows whenever he can, attacking with magic and roses from a distance and using his higher perspective of the battlefield to give the Senshi warnings (he would never dream of giving them directions though, so someone else can yell "Sailor Moon! Use your Sparklepants Attack!" for him). He is easily lured down when his allies start getting thrown around, and once he's in the ring, and he serves as a physical defense and a decoy while his allies prepare their spells, or as they escape the battle. Offensively, he does well in one-on-one duels, just as long as he doesn't have to worry about trying to defend other people at the same time. Overall, Tuxedo Kamen is really cool as long as his mouth is shut - he can't focus on battle and speak at the same time, so his taunts and encouragements alike may come across as bizarre, or at least stilted. He tries really really hard to speak in an upright, inspiring, yet intimidating way (again, like medieval adventure heroes he adores), but it's mostly just sad to even watch him. He does get flustered and very embarrassed when he realizes that he sounds like a total geek.

Intimate Behavior
Kazuo will be distant and dorky around most people until two conditions are met. First, he needs to interact with a person in a one-on-one talk, even in a situation so casual as having tea or waiting for the bus together. Sometimes Kazuo will approach a person himself for this, especially in a chance meeting where it would be even more awkward for him to leave, and sometimes he needs to be coaxed into meeting up with somebody. But if he has the chance to meet with someone individually rather than with a group, he starts to feel a lot more at ease with them instead of feeling 'ganged up' on. The second condition is that he needs to understand that there is some common bond between himself and the other person. It doesn't have to be as extreme as "we both had no money as kids" (oh hi Kyoko), and could be something as trivial as "we both like penguins". Something as simple as that makes him feel less like a complete stranger and less anxious, and from there, more of a relationship can be built. A person can really be considered a friend when Kazuo starts taking off his glasses around them - this indicates his confidence and comfort with the relationship, and that he's willing to let down some of his guards for the sake of the friendship.

As a friend, he is dependable, and he is genuinely interested in you and especially in what you like to do/make/create, and he urges his friends to constantly improve themselves (at a slow and steady rate, of course). If you have a concert/show/performance/merchandise going public, you bet that he'll show up to support you. He'll pop in for the rehearsals if he has the time. Kazuo will particularly support a friend he realizes is under a lot of stress, and although he's abysmal at figuring out what is stressing the person out, he will be gently encouraging and try to build back up his friend's confidence again. So he might be cheering you up because he thinks you are upset over a bad test grade (the real reason is because your boyfriend dumped you), but the attention is still flattering because he'll attempt to give you his full focus. Unlike his acquaintance relationships, Kazuo can disclose a little bit more about his opinions and past to his friends, and he would especially do this if he felt like a story about his life could make a friend feel better about their situation - he still never talks about himself just for the sake of talking, and would try to keep the conversation oriented on the other person.

The process of getting close to him takes time, for sure. Even after he is fully comfortable with an individual, his insecurities start to creep right back up in group situations. With the Negaverse Senshi, it's taken him months to get comfortable enough so that he can laugh and be casual when he's with the group. Newer groups won't immediately receive the same warmness, especially if he's unsure about their loyalty to Sailor Moon.

He really admires the Negaverse Senshi, and he genuinely wants to be considered a friend by each of them, but Kazuo is constantly worried that he is somehow ruining the dynamic between the girls. This is in part because he's a guy crashing an all-girl party, but he's also worried that the girls blame his previous interference in the Moon Kingdom for the downfall and deaths of everyone in the Silver Millennium (...oops). Being brainwashed and turned against them a few times also makes him insecure about their trust in him. Ultimately, Kazuo wouldn't blame any of the Negaverse Senshi for resenting him. If things came down to a serious confrontation with one of the Senshi, he'd back down immediately rather than let it escalate and ruin relationships, since he'd never want for people to hate Mitsuko because of him. But even if the Senshi hate his guts, he'd never stop trying to help them. In fact, Kazuo feels that the absolute least he can do for any person who supports Sailor Moon is to try to aid them in turn, and so he will constantly show up as Tuxedo Kamen despite of any group dynamics. If the Crisis Senshi prove they are loyal to Moon, then Tuxedo Kamen will help them, regardless of what the Negaverse Senshi decide.

Kazuo is truly a man who is being transformed by love, like some huge sappy blooming rose analogy. While most of his life has spent self-sustaining and independent, it was also a dead, cheerless existence. He had some distant friends, but nobody he was particularly close to, and nobody he felt like he could even platonically love and protect, and his personality was very quiet, dry, and serious. But in the past year since he's met Mitsuko and the other Senshi, he has emotionally grown A LOT in a short span of time. While he still definitely has problems with awkwardness and compromise, he has also learned that he is able to deeply care about people and that he does have the courage to stand up for them, tuxedo or not. Having friends and a girlfriend gives him a vitality that he didn't have before, as if his heart only started beating within the past year.

He's unsmooth and he's not rich or particularly classy, but he is committed deeply to Mitsuko and has complete faith in her - a faith and trust that he has never given anybody else in all of his life. His guards are torn down and he can openly share everything about his life to her, and his worries become trivial in the face of her reassurances. She inspires and energizes him, and her mere presence boosts his confidence. They make up for the weaknesses in the other and become very strong as a pair - for example, while Mitsuko might give up on herself, Kazuo encourages her not to lose faith in her potential, and while Kazuo is a stubborn idiot, Mitsuko is nothing but grace and helps him interact with others better. Absolutely nothing she could do would make Kazuo lose his love and trust for her, and even if he tried to distance himself from Mitsuko, his will would weaken and he'd just wander back like a lovesick puppy. While he is hopelessly smitten, he has no interest in advertising his romantic business all over the place, and so he won't be making out with her constantly in public or loom over her (he would be deeply embarrassed to be caught kissing her in public). But still, it would be hard to miss how his eyes follow her as she walks, how mentions of her can cause him to zone out, or how much more at ease he gets when she is close by. He has vivid, involved, and sometimes fabulously unrealistic daydreams about the life he imagines to have with her - this results in particularly dopey space-outs and extreme clumsiness.

Appearance:
dart bulletFace -- Kazuo's almond-shaped eyes seem black at first glance, but when you manage to get a bit closer, you'd see that he has a definite red shine to them. His eyebrows are long and of average thickness, with a gentle arch to their shape. His nose is straight, if a bit wide, but it works because he has a wider-set face overall. He has a solid, sloping jawline and a strong chin that is rounded just enough so that he doesn't come across as intimidating. His skin tone is a warm almond, soft and unblemished. Kazuo almost always wears dull, clunky rectangular black reading glasses - he's far-sighted, but not enough to justify wearing glasses all of the time. Primarily, he uses the glasses to help avoid attention and downplay himself. But when he forgoes the glasses and busts out a slightly dopey but charming grin, Kazuo reveals himself to be rather handsome.

dart bulletHair -- Like his eyes, the color of his hair is naturally black with a definite scarlet red sheen depending on how light hits it. His medium-short hair falls in a rough part over his right eye and small chunks of it tend to fall over his forehead. In spite of combing, his hair often lumps together into fat, flattened locks that look vaguely like petals. He washes it daily because sweat, grease, and general grime seem to think his hair is a sponge, though his hair is still naturally on the oily side.

dart bulletBuild -- Kazuo is no man-waif, and for sure he fills out that tuxedo nicely. He's 5'10, a few inches taller than average for a Japanese man, but his weight trumps the average by about thirty pounds. His frame explains a lot about his weight - his bone structure is a little thicker than average, and he has rather broad shoulders and a slightly narrower but still solid torso, plus large hands and feet. Because he gravitates towards jobs requiring manual labor, he has power packed in that frame, though there's just enough squishy to him so that he's good for hugs. He worries about being imposing, especially given how few men in Japan have a body structure like his, and when Kazuo feels like he needs to hide and downplay himself, he slumps his shoulders and retreats into bad posture. He's also discouraged because he believes that he's fat, which is obviously not the case, but it's hard for him to think otherwise in a culture where the ideal body type for men is narrow and thin.

Notably, though Kazuo mostly smells like his job (oil, grease, cleaning supplies, etc), there is a hint of rose in the air whenever you get very close to him. This has won him a few strange glances from people sitting next to him on the bus, but Kazuo himself can't smell it, and so he had no idea until it was pointed out to him. As Tuxedo Kamen, the smell of rose overpowers all of the other smells around him.

dart bulletVoice -- He has an understated voice, low, smooth, and slower-paced. The only exception is if he's suddenly anxious or excited about something, where he'll speak quicker than his mouth can keep up with, even to the point of tripping over his own words. He doesn't like to sing at all, and so his singing voice is either 'inaudible' or 'mumbles that sort of seem to follow key'. Kazuo's voice carries very well and clearly when he chooses to raise it, however, he only raises his voice when he absolutely needs to be heard, such as to give a warning. Even when he's angry, he doesn't enjoy yelling. He has a nervous laugh that he uses when he's embarrassed, but he also has a fuller, warm genuine laugh. If you really set him off, he'll snort with laughter too.

dart bulletClothing -- The keyword here is casual. Kazuo typically wears jeans or plain black slacks (he loves sweatpants, but now that he has a girlfriend, he'll behave and only wear them at his apartment). He despises sneakers, so he is normally in boots or a decent pair of dark loafers. He loves to layer his shirts, and typically is wearing a thermal long tee under a regular tee-shirt, or a regular tee and a button-down shirt, or a shirt and vest, or any other combination of layers. Though most of his clothing is second-hand, Kazuo has enough sense to remove stains, hem, sew in new buttons, and otherwise keep the clothes presentable. He likes light windbreaker jackets as well, and he has a weakness for handmade scarves. He's stuck in an ugly gray jumpsuit for his work at the auto shop, and it's normally streaked with oil and other fun stains, though he does also have a keen black leather jacket that he let Mitsuko pick out for him (even if he doesn't have the courage to wear it unless she's around). He also always wears a medium-grade digital watch that Mitsuko gave him as a gift.

Unfortunately for everybody, he is also colorblind. Kazuo has no idea what colors look best on him, but he figures that it's hard to mess up if he only wears black, blue, gray, and white (in fact, he is a winter, and so blacks, whites, and crisp, bold scarlets, sapphires, and golds look best on him). However, if he's inspired to be a little more colorful for a fun day out or a date, you might have to send him back to his closet a few times before he has a presentable match of colors (wearing all-neon for a day at the beach? HIGH POSSIBILITY).

History:
His first memory is of stealing fistfuls of candy from a grocer's when he was four - this incident is also the first official record of Kazuo that appears anywhere. He was lost and hungry in the city of Himeji, wandering alone around the great white castle there, and naturally his situation lent itself to stealing. When the police snatched him and brought him along to the local station, the boy was unable to account for his parents or anything else about himself. His first name, Kazuo, was something he could provide, and though there was an investigation to try to find his parents, nobody came forward. The boy was then entrusted to a Christian-run orphanage in a tiny village on the highlands of Hyogo, and given the surname Wakahisa.

Life in the orphanage was difficult, but Kazuo soon thought he figured out the 'trick' to it, and used his quick, eagerly-grabbing opportunism to make sure he got what he needed or wanted. This didn't translate amazingly to his interactions with the other orphanage kids, and he sometimes ended up in fights over a piece of fish, or a blanket, or shoes. He made no friends this way, and in short order, the authority of the orphanage (aka, scary nuns), called him out so strictly that he was absolutely mortified and humiliated. To avoid getting yelled at again, he quieted himself and fell so deeply into line that he disappeared. Afraid that the nuns and other kids might resent him, Kazuo tried not do anything to make himself stand out after that.

However, Kazuo was also quick to seize at positive opportunities, such as the resources he found at school. As soon as he could figure out his numbers and letters, he jumped at the chance to be a student assistant at his grade school library so that he would have more time to study at school and less to spend at the orphanage. He liked homework and he liked his after-school 'job' because he enjoyed the direction it provided for his energies, and from a young age he was really proud of anything he could accomplish with only his own mind and hands. He grew to love books because of his job, and found escape from the insecurity of his daily life in the mystical, if cliche heroic tales of knights and princes he found first in simple picture books, then in manga and novels. So from this age on, his mind started to turn to daydreams and fanciful tales in order to make his dry life a little more exciting.

Still, the orphanage was always hard for him, and he especially didn't like having Christianity forced on him, since he was very alarmed by the idea that just one mistake can forever doom you to hell and misery. But being put in foster homes was a thousand times worse. Being forced to change his home and school was nearly enough to tear Kazuo apart, and he felt terrified to be in an unfamiliar setting and under the scrutiny of strange people. Though he was already inclined towards being quiet, Kazuo clammed up completely while at the new home, very aware of how much of a stranger he was, and he was absolutely terrified of destroying the family's existing dynamic. The first family did give him back because he refused to go to his new school and he tried to run away a few times. One more attempt was made to place him in a new home when he was 13, and again he was too scared to cooperate, and just wanted to be left alone. When he was placed with these families, he started to wonder about his own parents, and desperately wished that he knew why he couldn't be with them. He used to dream that they had been caught up in a dastardly plot, like something out of an adventure novel. Now he accepts that he's just never going to see them.

When Kazuo finally left the orphanage at age 16, his middle school shop teacher helped him out by getting him a job in Tokyo. The teacher's grandfather ran a small all-purpose repair shop that handled everything from mopeds to watches, though the old man was lonely and could use an assistant. Not wanting to stay in the countryside anymore, Kazuo packed up and left for the big city. His boss turned out to be a tad senile but very helpful and kind (the senile part would help the boy keep his job later, because the old man always forgot to raise a fuss if Kazuo disappeared for a few weeks at a time), and his boss helped him get a tiny apartment as well. Because Kazuo had trouble making ends meet only on a mechanic's apprentice's salary, he also had a part-time job for a moving company. And then things proceeded pretty much the same over the next two years - wake up, go to work, watch TV, work more, then go to sleep. As time passed, Kazuo wasn't reading his favorite adventure books anymore, and was so consumed in the daily grind that he gave up on his dreams of heroics, happy endings, and perhaps most tragically, of true love. He was comfortable, but he was also lonely and unhappy, and he fully resigned himself to the fact that the rest of his life would be spent in this dry existence.

But he would eventually have something new to worry about- though he never previously dreamed, Kazuo was bombarded by visions of a crystal and of a woman promising to give him the secret of his past. He had no idea what the woman meant, and no dream interpretation book could help him out, though he had to wonder if she was referring to his unknown parents. He thought that he was getting enough hours of sleep each night, but apparently not, since he would wake up in the mornings sore and feel like he never got a wink of rest (and why is that window open? He could have sworn he closed it the evening before. And, hold on...oh dear god why is there a pile of DIAMONDS on the dresser?!) Amid this sudden sleeplessness and confusion, Kazuo was outsourced by his master to fix some machines at an arcade, and started bumping into a group of young girls who seemed to obsessively meet there.

And so Kazuo unknowingly started his career as Tuxedo Kamen, the Original Negaverse Senshi Fanboy. Though he was only concerned with nabbing the Silver Crystal at first, he found himself completely fascinated by the Negaverse Senshi for their bravery and their magical abilities, and would lurk around their battles and help them out in small ways. He was also kinda really crushing on that Sailor Moon chick (not like he had a chance in hell, he believed), and even started going out of his way to rescue and protect her. When Kazuo eventually realized that he was Tuxedo Kamen, he felt very sick to his stomach because he had also been falling for a schoolgirl who often visited his repair shop, Takenouchi Mitsuko. So overall, his first experience with romance was very guilt-ridden and confusing for him. Kazuo felt better when he found that Mitsuko and Sailor Moon were the same person, only to feel PROFOUNDLY WORSE when he later remembered they were past lovers who basically caused two kingdoms to totally collapse. Getting killed, captured, and brainwashed into an evil jackass afterwards didn't improve Kazuo's situation much.

Being rescued from the Dark Kingdom by the Negaverse Senshi is something that Kazuo will never stop being grateful for. Though he was prepared to pack up and leave Tokyo forever after the whole incident, Kazuo very shocked to find that Mitsuko forgave him, and that the others seemed to trust him enough to let him start a relationship with her. Since then, he's stopped at nothing to help the girls in return. His dedication to protecting them has met with mixed success, as sometimes he just ended up causing even more trouble, but in many other occasions his spywork, warnings, and physical ability helped in tight pinches. Kazuo constantly failed classes and lost his part-time jobs due to various superhero-related setbacks, but he gained friends and he found his true love, so it's been a good trade-off overall.

He was left behind when the Negaverse Senshi traveled to the Universe, though if he had a say in the matter, he wouldn't have thought twice about going too. But he was still very exhausted from spending a few months dead (thanks again, Galaxia), and he needed to stayed behind to operate the cross-dimensional breaching device that King Endymion made so that the girls could come back home. Kazuo tried to be patient when one day passed into two, then three, but that became very difficult as all of his attempts to communicate with the girls failed. In his fear that the device broke on the girls, he basically half-dismantled the thing before he realized nothing was wrong at all. It took all of Kazuo's willpower to hold out for as long as he did, but after a week, he got fed up and finally relented to asking Helios for the help needed to cross into the Universe.

Current Situation: Because he is mildly paranoid about his money, Kazuo brought as much cash with him that he could carry. Granted, most of the money is his engagement ring fund, and he only had enough left over to rent a tiny apartment from the same old woman who tends the rose garden in the park. He brought some clothes too, and also brought the four stones holding the Generals' spirits (they might or might not reside in a zip-lock bag right now, sorry guys). Eventually in the Universe, Kaz will take up work at an auto shop that exclusively repairs cars and motorbikes.

P A R T III : warrior information.

Symbol: The symbol of Earth, which is a circle with an equilateral cross splitting it into quarters.

Main Color: Scarlet Red (#8c1717).

Secondary Color: Metallic Gold (#d4af37).

Transformation Sequence:
Kazuo takes a green rosebud from his shirt pocket and with his left hand, brings it close to the right side of his face. He closes his eyes, and then the sprig suddenly blossoms into a brilliant red rose. The petals fly from the rose-head and sweep around him, and his whole body is awash in black and red color briefly. The petals make a second sweep around him, then scatter to the winds when he's revealed to be in full fuku with his cane in-hand. The whole thing takes just a few seconds.

Introduction Phrase:
Tuxedo Kamen does his best to avoid being seen or heard by the enemy - cue him sneaking around in the shadows and jumping around on roofs. In spite of his best efforts to hide, he tends to be called out rather quickly, and so people tend to do his introduction for him ("Oh! It's TUXEDO KAMEN-SAMA!!") But once he is seen, he will stop what he's doing and strike a pose -with his feet together and his chest thrust out, Tuxedo Kamen throws open the left side of his cape, causing a random flurry of rose petals to sweep past. He doesn't introduce himself, but he does taunt the opponent by pointing at them with his cane and calling out the first phrase that comes to his mind. So if he's at a candy store, he'll say "Four out of five dentists agree; you are a rotten influence on this town! I will see that you are brushed out!" and holds his stance for a few seconds.

Then, after the phrase sinks in, Tuxedo Kamen ends up face-palming himself, if that counts as part of the pose.

dart bulletHat -- Black with a scarlet ribbon.
dart bullet Coat -- Long black tuxedo jacket with sharp silk lapels. There are no buttons on the jacket, so it is always left open. The lapels and two pockets at his waist are edged in scarlet. He also has a breast pocket on his left side, and the inside of the coat is lined with scarlet silk.
dart bullet Shirt -- White wing-collared tuxedo shirt. A stripe of scarlet silk runs down the centerline, and silk-covered scarlet buttons keep the shirt fixed together.
dart bullet Vest -- White vest with scarlet buttons down the side, just like the shirt. His vest also has finely embroidered scarlet roses and vines - the vines seem to climb from the center of the vest and curl out into roses..
dart bullet Bow Tie-- Metallic gold tie.
dart bullet Medallion -- Scarlet crystal starburst medallion, secured by a golden ribbon.
dart bullet Gloves -- White leather gloves (since throwing roses with any other fabric would sort of suck). The edging and the button at his wrist are both in scarlet.
dart bullet Pants -- Black double-pleated tuxedo pants.
dart bullet Cape -- He has a great floor-length silk cape fixed to golden epaulets at his shoulders, and it has scarlet lining on the inside and black on the outside. The cape is somehow connected to his roses - without the cape, he cannot summon the roses he needs for his attacks (or the fluttering rose petals he needs when he poses sexily).
dart bullet Shoes -- Black patent leather Oxford shoes that look normal, though the bottoms of the shoes have scarlet treading on it, making Tuxedo Kamen even more sure-footed.
dart bullet Accessories -- It's slightly difficult to be a Tuxedo Kamen if you lack a mask. He has a long black mask in a sharp angular shape, like two symmetrical elongated triangles that meet over the bridge of his nose. The eye holes are covered in a dark semi-opaque film that obscure his eyes in most light.

Additionally, he has gold rose-embossed cuff-links at the sleeves of his shirt, and wears a pair of red suspenders. In his breastpocket is a golden handkerchief with a scarlet embroidered rose in one corner. Tuxedo Kamen has a scarlet red cummerbund over his waist as well.

Attacks

dart bulletName -- Rose-Colored Reverie

dart bulletEffect -- Pointing the capped end of his cane at his opponents, Tuxedo Kamen starts by whispering "Lost in the daydream of romance..." Then he starts to make great circles in front of him with the point of his cane, as if he's hypnotizing his opponent. After five seconds, a rosey-pink colored circular pulse starts radiating forward from the circle, complete with a spiral of rose-petals, and the pulse overall appears rather soothing in color and very sweet in smell. This pulse is a lure, meant to attract people within range of his attack. After another five seconds, he calls out "Rose-Colored Reverie!" and then a red flash, like from a high-powered camera, bursts forth, temporarily startling any people who have any part of their body in the circular pulse area.

Other than the flash, there is no physical element to this attack. Instead, people caught in the flash will start exhibiting the traits of a person really really lost in the throes of romance (regardless of whether or not they are currently in love), so much that it becomes a detriment to them in battle. Of course, how they exhibit this depends on how the individual would react to being in an incredibly intense crush. Some victims may start to show off excessively, so much that they put themselves in unnecessary danger just to impress others. Some may exhibit codependency and cling to the arms of their allies. Some may get carried away in their daydreams or narcassism. Some may even start to see their allies as 'rivals', and either act haughty or wallow in a pool of self-loathing. Regardless of the victim's individual reaction, they will probably be distracted enough by their own behavior that they can't think straight in battle.

dart bullet Restrictions -- This attack does take a relatively long time to activate, so Tuxedo Kamen might get attacked while in mid-charge (for this reason, he tries to keep this attack long-range). While the attack can hit targets at a long distance (up to thirty feet), it has a narrow effect range, so only three people maximum might get caught in the light. Dodging the attack is also very easy (keep your body out of the circular pulse). Also, because Tuxedo Kamen doesn't have great magical stamina, he can use this attack only once per henshin.

dart bulletName -- Desperate Rose Requital

dart bulletEffect -- Tuxedo Kamen makes a rose appear from his cape, but instead of throwing the rose, he takes a second to wave it under his nose for a sniff. Quite suddenly, he snaps off the head of the rose, holds it in a fist over his head and yells "Desperate Bloom Requital!". He then throws the now semi-crystallized rose-head like a baseball at his opponent. It shatters apart on contact with the target or any other surface, then explodes outwards in a great burst of rose petals. Nearby targets are overwhelmed by the petals and by a very dense smell of rose, so much that it forms a red fog. If the target takes a breath of the rose-scent, and then they will suddenly be struck with the most potent memories of romance that they possess.

Which sounds nice, except that the thoughts will make the target deeply crave to be with the person they romantically loved the most in their lifetime. The overbearing urge to see this loved one feels like a hand literately squeezing the target's heart, and the pain will only be relieved when they can hold the hand of their loved one, or say "I love you" to them. In the cases where a target can't touch or speak to their loved one, the pressure on their heart will not fade until the smell of rose disappears. The target's loved one does not necessarily have to be requiting the target's feelings, and so unfortunate targets may end up prematurely confessing love to their crushes just to make the urge and pain go away. It could also bring repressed romantic feelings to the surface, which could be very distressing for people not wanting to confront their feelings. Confessing insincere love will not cause the attack's effects to fade. Only three rose-heads can be summoned per battle, and Tuxedo Kamen is likely to use them in quick succession to cause the most fog and confusion.

dart bulletRestrictions -- This attack affects all people who can smell the roses, including Tuxedo Kamen and his allies, so he should try calling out a warning beforehand. Targets who cannot smell for any reason will not be affected by the attack's psychological element, and in open-air or blustery environments, the fog and the smell of the roses will diffuse a lot faster. Likewise, targets who genuinely never romantically fancied anybody in their life won't be affected by the psychological element either (though this is rare - who hasn't had at least one awkward middle school crush?). Desperate Bloom is best when used as an exit attack to help Tuxedo Kamen and his allies escape a battle.

dart bulletName -- The Rose Whisperer
(This is not a formal attack, but a henshin-only special ability.)

dart bulletEffect -- Ever since his past life, roses and Endymion have had a mysterious, but very close connection that not even the prince ever fully understood. Roses recognize him as 'kin' - specifically, they see Endymion as a dim, wayward brother who's always throwing himself into deadly trouble (...which would be correct), so they go out of their way to protect and aid him when they can. Some small favors they might do is sway in the direction of an enemy, or perhaps a vital clue Tuxedo Kamen was looking for conveniently happens to be on top of a nearby rose. Maybe a rose vine 'accidentally' trips an enemy chasing him past a garden, or ensnares the ankles of enemies who actually dare tread in those gardens. They can do some big favors too - if Tuxedo Kamen is falling off a building, a pot of roses sitting on somebody's balcony will grow rapidly, then lash out to grab his hand. If not that, then roses in a small garden at the base of the building will burst forth and create a cushion for his safe landing.

Basically, this power is a delightful deus ex machina, brought to you by botany. The perpetual rose-scent that Kazuo and Tuxedo Kamen generate are explained by this power, since that is how the roses recognize him.

dart bulletRestrictions -- First off, while Kazuo does have an affinity for roses in civilian mode, the roses only go out of their way to help him if he's in his powered-up mode. In addition to that, Tuxedo Kamen has no ability at all to command the roses. He could yell at a rose bush for an hour, commanding it to turn into a ladder, but it will never listen to him. Likewise, if the roses think grabbing his foot while he's falling midair is more helpful than grabbing his hand, he can't tell them otherwise. Also, the roses do demand his delicious energy in return for their services. Small favors require so little energy that Tuxedo Kamen barely notices it, but massive favors such as creating a rose-cushion for a fall will bring him to the point of passing out.

Also, realistically, it's rather unlikely that Tuxedo Kamen will happen to be near a rose bush every time he is in great peril. He can stack the odds more in his favor by luring enemies near floral shops or parks, but otherwise he's out of luck. Only roses that are still rooted to soil are able to help him, so his weapon-roses cannot be used in these capacities.

Weapons:
dart bulletTuxedo Cane -- His weapon is a black wooden cane, only a foot long in its base state but extendable to fifteen feet. The cane has a golden cap at the top end that is shaped like a rose-head halfway through bloom. While it is an extremely durable, tough, and reliable weapon, Tuxedo Kamen definitely could use some training with the other sword-wielding Senshi. He does innately remember some sword training he had as a Prince (particularly defensive maneuvers), yet he tends towards simplicity and mostly uses the cane to gracelessly clobber the tar out of his opponent.

dart bulletRoses -- From the mystery-space that is his cape, Tuxedo Kamen can produce roses that can be used as projectile weapons in battle. And these mo-fos are FREAKING HUGE. They are Mister Lincoln variety roses that are just shy of two-feet long each, with fist-sized red roseheads. The ends are each cut diagonally to a point, and the thorns are intact and ready for some scratchin'. His roses don't have any fancy abilities such as defusing magic, but they are good at stabbing things from a far distance, which is good enough for him. Tuxedo Kamen limits his use of roses to mostly long-range combat, since in close-combat he finds using the cane much more effective (and more threatening...he's still not quite sure why people always seem amused, rather than frightened, whenever he uses his roses as weapons).
